In the near future, an international conflict rages over control of freshwater reserves located in northern Canada. Two young soldiers, Leïla and Leo, are stationed together in the field to guard a well and its precious contents. As they open up to each other and we learn more about their friendship and their stories, tension builds in the air as the conflict intensifies. Their radiant youth and dreams stand in stark contrast to the social oppression around them.A dystopia as striking as it is sensitive. Resolutely contemporary, this play centers on the love and friendship between these two characters who seem so different on the surface, but for whom all that matters is to protect one another. Intimate, political, and social issues are addressed with precision, humor, and great tenderness toward these two young people from immigrant backgrounds—whose families fled war—who choose to enlist in the armed forces.
