About
On Saturday, February 28, at 5 p.m., the opening of the exhibitions "Ghost 25: if you can't be free" by Jota Mombaça and "Nos rivages" by Catherine Arsenault will take place at L'OEil de poisson.
For Ghost 25: if you can't be free, the artist immersed his fabrics in the South River, a tributary of the St. Lawrence River. Marked by the water and the life that inhabits it, the fabric bears witness to a freedom—that of the currents—in opposition to the violence of colonization, the slave trade, globalization, and industrial production. Like a ghost ship, the fabric leaves the impression of something haunted, while bearing the traces of past performances.
The numerous drawings in "Nos rivages" bear witness, on the one hand, to the artist's gesture and, on the other, to the repetition—like that of the waves, tireless—necessary for their creation. Once transposed into animation, they reveal a dance in which the movements of the water intertwine with his own.
The activity takes place in all weather conditions, unless safety is compromised
