About
Satrawah is a new festival dedicated to the richness and diversity of contemporary Indigenous arts. Taking place on July 24 and 25 in Wendake, the event will bring together a wide range of disciplines—from the performing arts to the visual arts, literature, and circus arts—to highlight the breadth and vitality of contemporary Indigenous creativity.
The name Satrawah means “Get out of the way!” in the Wendat language. This name invites us to step aside to make room for today’s Indigenous arts. Indigenous cultures are not experienced in just one way, and Satrawah is committed to celebrating this diversity by providing a platform for artists who explore, reinvent, and shape their practices according to their own paths.
July 24 will also mark the reopening of the Hannenorak Bookstore, a festive occasion that will be part of the programming for Satrawah’s opening day. The festival will conclude with a major show featuring Laura Niquay, Eadsé, and Andawa Laveau. The goal is to offer the public the opportunity to discover fresh voices and new artistic worlds.
The event is completely FREE during the day. Tickets are sold for the evening performances.
