In 18th-century Europe, few figures stood out as much in the eyes of their contemporaries as Arcangelo Corelli, whose music continued to be published more than a century after his death. This musician was such an important cultural icon that many well-established musicians in Europe wrote works inspired by him, imitating his style and transcribing or reorchestrating his pieces, transforming him into a veritable deity.
In this program, we not only seek to share with you some of our favorite pieces by Corelli, but also to explore the immense influence he had on other musicians, which continues to this day. (That's why we're putting on this show!) Who knows, perhaps in the process we will come a little closer to the divine, to the figure of the "archangel" that he embodies, and perhaps we too will take our first steps towards worshipping him...
