About
Inspired by the Lila ceremonies, traditional mystical and musical celebrations from his native Morocco, Ismaël Mouaraki explores trance and spirituality in his new creation with a group of male dancers from Quebec and Morocco. Through them, he also retraces his own journey before the audience's eyes.
In Arabic, lila means "night." These ceremonies are a series of nocturnal rituals of spiritual healing combining song, dance, and music, traditionally found in Sufi brotherhoods in the Maghreb countries.
Ismaël transposes the rites and codes of these dance rituals onto the stage to reveal the sensitivity and sensuality of the male body, making the show a moment of true celebration where the exaltation of the body unfolds through contagious energy.
This highly symbolic work marks Ismaël Mouaraki's 25 years of immigration and the 20th anniversary of his company, Destins Croisés.
